Memorial Day Weekend part #1

Hi friends and family,
This is the first of several parts of our Labor Day "home vacation." We chose to take a few dollars from our savings and vacate with the kids cuz they won't be going camping with us in June. SO...
Friday night we played alont outside. Then, we grilled italian sausage and hotdogs for the kids. Corrie and I then sliced the sausage, added onions and peppers, mushrooms and pizza sause, plus cheese. Corrie whipped up some homemade pasta salad and mac n cheese. Good meal:)
Saturday, we slept in till like 8am... kids still get up too early. We took them grocery shopping, at a big brunch at Bob Evans, played in their blowup pool all afternoon, and finally, wrapped up the evening at our favorite local italian place called THE WORKS.Go check out the menu at www.theworkspizza.com/

Hi everyone...
I uploaded all the pics from my phone today. These span who knows how long. First, we took a pic of our favorite bbq place that we eat at more than once a week. $6 for a meal that fills me up! That alone is worth it.

Finally, parts of our lawn are starting to bloom. Most of the bigger plants are still blossoming, but I caught a few of the smaller flowers today.

BOOKS?

Hi everyone...
What have you been reading lately? I thought I'd do a little book review and talk about what I'm currently looking into. So here goes...

FINISHED RECENTLY:
Really interesting take on the nature of one man's struggle to try to get his brain around our heavenly Father. It's good at both challenging you and getting at your heart at the same time. It broad strokes a ton of theological themes by tackling them in a fictional dialogue... good way to do it I think. Worth the read.

NOT A BIG FAN... the author's research was really really shoddy. He felt like the emperor Constantine was the originator of things like corporate worship... I think a look at the Old Testament and the ministry of Jesus would probably disagree with him... lol. He took several Scriptures out of context too. Example: he said that when Jesus cleared the temple of the money changers that he was not just trying to get them to return to a "house of prayer" but was calling for house church... what?! That's taking some liberties on the text! OVERALL: I would not recommend this book. Barna's revolutionaries was better.

If you want to, you can download and read the whole thing. VERY COOL! Another theological dialogue and teachinga bout getting back to the heart of the church. Liked it alot. Reminded me of my relationships with many of my friends in ministry... how we can challenge each other and rely on each other even if it's been awhile since we've seen one another. Makes a good case for the organism of Christianity not just the organization.

Emerging Worship - not learning anything new right now.
THE MESSAGE: Old Testament Prophets - learning a ton about Father right now.

BOOKS I'M LOOKING AT FOR RESEARCH/FUTURE SERMONS:
The Barbarian Way - read it, it's good
The Voice of the Martyrs - good devo.

FINALLY... still need to get "TUCK" by Lawhead... if you haven't read HOOD or SCARLET, they are really good.

Good weekend of family...

Ethne moved into her big bed this weekend, we tried a new BBQ place this weekend, we had a garage sale, and we created the perfect combination of metwurst, peppers, onions, mushrooms and condiments.

Garage SALE Tomorrow

Starting at 9am tomorrow, we'll be opening up the old garage and selling some items. It's a spring thin-out, moving, too much baby-stuff kindof a sale I think. Call Corrie 374-2117 with questions.

HOUSE update?

There is soooo much it's just silly. Here's the basics:

• Lawyers and bankers arguing over the details.
• Need for the buyers to be patient (pray for this friends).
• For us, nothing is changed. Just living and learning and trying to serve Jesus.

Lots of change on my heart today...

First, we have another (2nd for this family) showing tonight. Our realtor expects a bid. So a move may be on the horizon very soon.

Second, we have completely reshaped Coffee with the Pastors (CWTP) and have a new format that we're beginning tonight. At CWTP we are planning on tackling some tough topics. Tonight we encounter the death penalty.

Third, our local school system is voting on a levy tomorrow that could effect a ton of our local folks. For the schoolsystem and corrie's babysitting (she sits for a teacher) it really needs to pass. For the poor of Morrow and the local farmer or horserancher, it needs to fail. Crazy amount of change surrounding this issue no matter your politics.

Others: summer is coming on fast... Ethne is almost 2... Zeke is potty-trained except at night... the coffeeshop is entering a time of slow-down for the warm weather... and there are more, but that's enough for now.

House Update

We had 2 showings last night. Both families have contacted our realtor and they are talking pre-liminary offers. We have another showing tonight (Friday May 1) at 7pm. So here's how you should pray:)

1- for the showing tonight

2- for any and all offers to come quickly

3- for the mortgage company to like the offers (big prayers)

4- for the rental prop. we like to still be there when we sell
